Live translation on tour

You speak into your phone. Guests scan a QR code and listen to the translation in their own headphones, on their own phones.

The one thing to remember

While ON AIR is showing, it is costing money. You pay for every minute of every started language — not per guest. One hour of one language costs about €1.75.

Always tap Stop at the end of the tour. Do not count on closing the browser to do it for you.

What you need

How to run it — 6 steps

  1. Open the link in your app

In the driver app tap 🎧 Tlmočenie. The translator page opens. Do not bookmark it — the link expires after a few hours.

  2. Check two tick boxes under Settings

    • Broadcast to guest phones — must be ticked. This is the only thing that sends sound to the guests. Untick it and the QR still shows, guests still join, but they hear silence for the whole tour.
    • Play translation on this phone — must be unticked. Otherwise the translation blares out of your phone and your microphone picks it back up.
  3. Tick the guest language

Under Guest languages. One is usually enough. Every extra language costs money and loads the phone — do not tick languages just in case.

  4. Tap Start and allow the microphone

The phone asks for microphone access. You must allow it, or nothing starts.

When all is well, ON AIR shows in large letters, with a language row saying live underneath.

  5. Show the guests the QR code

It is on the screen from the start, even before Start. The guest scans it with the camera, taps Listen and puts the headphones on.

Let them do it before you set off, while everyone is standing still. On the move nobody manages it.

  6. Talk normally, tap Stop at the end

Keep the phone close to you, microphone towards you. The translation arrives a few seconds behind — it is interpreting, not an echo.

Glance at the screen now and then: the language row must say live.

Screen off — different on Android and on iPhone

This is the most common reason guests suddenly hear nothing. Find your phone below.

Android — you may switch the screen off

The microphone keeps running even with the screen locked. But first turn off battery saving for the browser, or the phone will quietly kill the app after a few minutes.

Try it once at home: start the translation, lock the phone for two minutes and check on a second phone that the sound is still there.

iPhone — do not let the screen go off

When an iPhone locks, it switches the microphone off and the translation ends. This is not a fault in our app and we cannot fix it — it is an iPhone limitation.

On both phones: do not switch to another app while broadcasting — the translation stops and guests hear silence.

After 5 minutes of silence it stops itself

If nobody says anything for five minutes, the session ends. That is on purpose: there is no point paying for sessions running empty on the bus or after the tour.

It is not a fault. To carry on, tap Start again — exactly as at the beginning. Guests can stay on their page; if they hear nothing, have them tap Listen once more.

When you know there is a longer break coming (lunch, a transfer), just tap Stop.

The guest QR code

What to say when you hand out the QR
English Scan this code with your camera, tap Listen, and put your headphones on. Keep the page open — if you switch apps, the sound stops.
